Kith and Kin
The design reinterprets complex yet pragmatic relationships as practiced among the first people of Australia. Originally a patriarchal culture, it has predominately maintained a series of relationships that governs one’s interactions with the one and another. However, due to the loss / death /absence of many fathers many aboriginals now orientate themselves within their history and land through their mother’s family, as this the relationship aboriginal people have with the land and each other is not simply based on good will, but an obligation.
The aboriginal culture is spread through oral stories, dance, and song. These stories pass down vital cultural information that allow caretakers of the country to fulfil their duty to take care of the land. This includes making sure not only them, but visitors respect the spirits and sacred places on the land. The architectural proposition presents an intimate story of closely knit spaces with an intrinsic role for innovation via collaboration.
Balustrade Lamp
Primarily a step lighting system, the balustrade lamp is integrated into the staircase as an improvised mini table for quick jotting down on ascending or descending, or even to draw a freehand sketch or perspective view of the interiors from an interesting vantage point.
