Voyeurism
As primarily visual learners, the act of voyeurism is a fundamental aspect of the culture within the SoBE. As such, voyeurism, the act of getting pleasure from watching others, is inherent in the pedagogy used within a specialised learning environment. Architecture can be used to create ‘a screen of anonymity’ where the voyeur is raised in height above the voyee and allows the voyee to not feel threatened by the voyeurs gaze. I have done this throughout my design of building F06 through the layering of floor slabs and terrace balconies that overlook each other, and the activation space below, creating vantage points from each to facilitate learning through collaboration to develop innovative learning practices. Observation Skylights and Viewing Platforms puncture the spaces and allow viewing from above, while the ways the spaces bridge across the site allows viewing down into the open green space or across into other learning spaces.
