Crafting a Narrative

The notion of storytelling as a methodology of design practice and reconciliation with the first people theorizes the design conceptulaization. Through the telling’s of the “dreamtime” the first people could craft stories through verbal communication. Therefore, how one can craft a story through a physical sense? The SoBE attempts to embrace this ideology to create a physical and meta-physical narrative for the students and staff who occupy it, creating a highly intimate yet immersive experience. Following the model of Gustav Freytag’s dramatic pyramid, being that every story has a beginning, a middle and end. Regardless of it being a verbal structure or a physical structure, it the proposals intention to show how this ideology can be put into a physical practice.

Freytag’s dramatic structure derived from plays and film studies is the driving concept in crafting this physical and metaphorical narrative. The SoBE is displayed into five stages, emulating five different experiences for students and staff as they progress through the intense fluctuations involved within the learning and design process.
