The Land and People
Long before Curtin University, this land was inhabited for a different type of education. The whadjuk bojak people lived and learned off this site and the surroundings, earning the area a place in the dreaming. Today Curtin University stands in this place offering education in an era that sees new challenges in tertiary education and the survival of Universities. The Land and People Building will create a vibrant stage for research and Built Environment education. By incorporating cafés and maker spaces that boarder on open teaching and practice areas the building aspires not only to provide students with a dynamic space to learn, but draws spatial consumers into the area through immersive activities. The design creates atmosphere through a centrally planned flexible space that performs as an exhibition space cum learning space and a source of inspiration. In respect to the land and the delicate eco systems that once did and hopefully once again will inhabit the space only small incisions into the site have been made and green areas have been created to off-put the buildings footprint. This design will not only engage the staff and students, but also professional practice, the public and the land in the creation of a symbiotic relationship among stakeholders.
