Redefined Future

Through a process of re-discovery, the concept of the new SoBE building emerged as its own civic hub with deep awareness on human occupation of spaces for innovation. The idea that began to take shape was that of connectivity. Both connectivity of the spaces and people, within and to each other. By creating spaces in dynamic spatial movement, the design allows students to identify with their studios and classrooms and take ownership of it, as it is unique to the others.

In clever planning with an eye to the future and the direction that it may take, the proposal approaches the design through future proofing that allows deciduous growth and adaptation. One such space, the cantilevered gallery which originated from the site analysis itself, challenges conventions of display by creating an indoor outdoor conversation point. Stepping outside of what it means to be a university student, and understanding how it feels to be one, and what effect your building has on this, shaped a progressive and innovative outcome that ultimately married the expectations and emotions for the future.
