Flexiblilty

This new design for the F06 recognises the unique typological conditions of Curtin University, particularly where the existing 201 has become largely monumental and thus rather fragile after long years of use and proposes a flexible design that has the possibility for future expansion. The design achieves this flexibility through an open and reconfigurable floor plan by using a column grid system which allows the structure to morph based on the user's unique needs. The design also responds to the growing and changing needs of the University and includes future planning for two additional levels based on the open plan column grid system so they also are able to change based on user needs which allows the structure to evolve and grow as a part of a fifty year plan and further into the future. Furthermore, as can be seen in the visual narrative, there are several typological possibilities included within the structure, namely commercial, educational, social and accommodation as expressed in the general use proposal.
