The Table of the Intellectuals

Sustainability of intellectual condition has been the underlying theme of this design; between understanding how universities can maintain modern relevance and financial security, to ensuring cultural survival and environmental conservation. Metabolism is an architectural paradigm which deals directly with these issues; But where traditional metabolism fails to appreciate a humane relationship with the land, Australian Metabolism reflects reality and provides a peripherally centred framework which supports a series of semi-permanent repeating spatial typologies at a multitude of scales and contexts.

To strategize resources and promote collaboration this design envisions the merging of the School of Art and Design with the School of Built Environment as the first step towards interdisciplinary education. F06 itself understands the Southern façade to be the primary interface with Greater Curtin users. In response, it invites the street into the building through guided views to a passageway between F06 and F05, and ultimately through into the new Curtin Innovation District – a multidisciplinary makers’ space which provides students, staff and industry partners access to facilities including large scale 3D prototyping, higher degree research spaces, digital immersion theatres, CNC machines and much more. It’s just the beginning.
