A Humane Production-line
The concept reinforces an intrinsic relationship that is shared between design method and the built environment. It can be seen through example that different spatial formations encourage certain behavioural pathways and therefore methodologies for problem-solving. The proposal exploits this concept by incorporating a number of unique spatial adjacencies to encourage a more spontaneous pattern of design production. In doing so, the structure becomes a pedagogical tool in itself, serving as a form of infrastructure of ideation rather than a collective grouping of design-education specific classrooms.
The concept is expressed in two formations existing on the Northern and Southern interfaces of the proposal. One, a unique system of overhanging rooms all interconnected via an array of interweaving staircases. These learning environments of varying program create a unique ecosystem of knowledge sharing and ideation. And the other, a collection of mobile classrooms capable of lateral movement along the southern facade. These serve as a dedicated learning space cum infrastructural hybrid, each possessing a unique ministered lift system, capable of collecting materials and works created down in the buildings workshop and delivering them directly to formal classrooms.
Vertical Workshop Lift
The Vertical Workshop lift is what provides the direct connection throughout the respective vertical floors of the SoBE facility. A simple yet robust system of exposed gears and chain, the as a learning device in concept, demonstrating that despite lacking complex or innovative solutions, an architectural innovation can levy a dynamic impact on the program of a building.
