Carved Landscape

“Gone are the days of hanging a Boomerang on the wall or a dot painting in the lobby. Indigenous communities are demanding more, but with new modes of thinking” Jeta Greenaway

Forging the symbiosis between people and the land, 'Carved Landscape' seeks to offer a new architectural language which defies the usual notion of creating a large and obnoxious ‘tower’ on a site, through the formation of an ‘architectural landscape.’ Inspired by the carving motions of the Wargyl - this design has carefully been informed by various site features in order to create a sustainable, adaptable and engaging space for both School of Built Environment students and other members of the community. The interior spaces feature operable, glazed partitions, allowing visual connectivity between differing classes in order to encourage incidental learning and connection between individuals, groups and even whole faculties. Articulating a biophilic attitude to design and connecting the building with the landscape, the architecture seeks to improve both student and staff mental, spiritual and physical well-being - whilst also offering essential amenities to ensure a pleasurable experience within the campus.
